League format changes
The league decided to reduce the number of teams from 16 to 12 for the 2012/13 season. The bottom five teams will be relegated, while only one team from the Druga HNL would be promoted.
* Licencing issues
Although NK Dugopolje finished 1st in the Druga HNL, they hadn't aquired a top level licence. Consequently they were not promoted. NK Pomorac who finished 2nd also failed to aquire a licence. As none of the top placed teams had a top level licence, NK Rijeka who had finished 12th in the Prva HNL, kept their place in the league.
