Notes

  •  1: Initially known as the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup the first two competitions were played over 3 years, when trade fairs were in European cities. From the 1960/61 season it was staged annually.
  •  2: The 1964 and 1965 finals were decided by a one game final at an agreed venue.
  •  3: On 22nd September 1971 FC Barcelona (the winners the most times) played Leeds United (the most recent winners), to decide who kept the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup. FC Bacelona won 2-1.
  •  4: In the 1971/72 season the name was changed from the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup to the UEFA Cup.
  •  5: From the 1997/98 season the UEFA Cup was decided by a one game final at a preset venue.
  •  6: At full time the score was Liverpool 4-4 Deportivo Alavés. Liverpool won with a golden goal.
  •  7: At full time the score was FC Porto 2-2 Celtic. FC Porto won with a silver goal.
